Default 55Mo and Shielding Hands not working (sometimes?)

So sometimes when I'm 55ing my Shielding Hands works fine, negating all damage so I never lose health. But sometimes, it just stops working - The spell is still on, but I just start taking damage and die.
What makes it only sometimes do this?

The casting order determines the order of effects. Protective Spirit must be cast before Shielding Hands.

It might be that you're refreshing certain enchantments (i.e, Prot Spirit) which is reordering the order in which they take effect. Wiki says this though:

Recasting prot spirit should not reorder the damage reduction from Shielding hands (I've tried this myself many times). So, the most likely explanation is that you're dying from something else. It could be life-steal or you could be forgetting to keep prot spirit on you. Also, I suppose lag could be responsible.

Recasting prot spirit definitely reorders the damage reduction. This is a well known mechanic. Rule of thumb: never cast prot spirit after shielding hands and expect it to reduce all damage to zero.

I know what you mean, sometimes, quite rarely, Shielding hands last for 6 seconds or so instead of 8. Some bug I guess, I cast Shield of absorbtion on recharge to avoid the situation.

I tested the whole casting Prot Spirit after I use Shielding Hands, and I still take 0 damage, so that's not the case. Especially since I die usually when I'm not even casting a spell, or haven't. It really just stops working.

Are u sure u're not talkign about Shield of Absorption?? Shielding Hands should reduce dmg by 3...15...18! So if u already have Prot Spirit u should be anyway taking 5 dmg max plus using Shielding Hands should give a reduction of 19 (assuming u have 16 at prot prayers).

Never had such problem....

I'd record every farm I did ever, waiting for it to happen.. but.. that's just irritating >.<

That is undoubtedly the way it is SUPPOSED to work. However, if you had actually tried this in game, you'd find that it doesn't happen. Several notable 55 farms have existed which even took advantage of this, such as the now defunct 55 farm for stygian gems.

Back to the OP's question: I find that sometimes when farming with a 55 or 330 (or even a 600) I seem to just die for no reason that I see. My only conclusion is that either lag caused skills to not go off they way I thought they were or I just missed something like renewing prot spirit. Doesn't mean what you're experiencing isn't a bug, but until we know more (about where you're farming, what foes, etc.) or see a video of what's happening its hard to say more.

Well, I guess it comes down to me actually recording all my farms until it happens... Damn!
Any good, non crappy quality recording programs I can use that are free?

I 55 farm all the time and use this mechanic. I never die as long as I don't cast prot spirit after shielding hands. Simple as that. Research these forums this problem comes up every once and a while and it's always the same solution.

question should be asked What you are farming. when u start taking dmg and dying.I personnly never use sheilding hands, but depends on what you are farming i spose
